At the start of the period, the students worked on a handout entitled "The Invasion of Poland" (Primary Source Document/Backgrounder). The students were asked to read the diary excerpt and the background information before answering the four posed questions at the bottom (15 minutes).
At the close of the work period (15 minutes)...the instructor talked with the students about the details of the questions before transitioning to the visual lecture and notes pertaining to the details of the Battle of Britain, El Alamein and Operation Barbarossa (Hitler's violation of the non-aggression pact with Stalin).
