Today, the students began the period with their third Warm-Up question for Unit 7. Warm-Up Question #3 was: What is the main social characteristic that all Totalitarian Dictators use to maintain power and control of their governments? From all of the elements of Totalitarianism, which element probably allows the most control or public obedience in the long run? What characteristics of Totalitarianism (including Communism, Fascism and Nazism) might make it attractive during a crisis like Economic Depression? EXPLAIN.
Following the warm-up question, the students and the instructor discussed the final lecture notes and topics for Unit 7 including the introduction of the Nuremburg Laws, Hitler's violations of the Treaty of Versailles in the 1930's and the failed attempts at war avoidance (appeasement by Neville Chamberlain) before Hitler's dash for Poland (invasion of the Danzig on Sept 1, 1939).
